Les Paul Dies - August 13, 2009

August 13, 2009 - White Plains, NY -
Les Paul, one of the great innovators in music technology has died…
Everyone who records music (and most musicians) owe a debt of gratitude to Les Paul for his work with sound engineering. He was a true pioneer, getting wonderful new sounds out of a guitar. Many of the great sounds that we enjoy today are due to the “little black boxes” that Les invented. And of course, there’s the Gibson Les Paul guitar which is treasured by musicians all over the world.
The following link is a tribute to Les’ life and work. It’s a great read.

Gospel Chicken House - August 10, 2009

Have you been to the "Gospel Chicken House" in Montpelier, VA? Every Saturday night, gospel concerts are held in what was once an old chicken house. The High On the Mountain Boys played there for the first time this past Saturday evening and it was a great experience. The people were friendly and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced, but what impressed me the most was that you could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. There were hundreds of people there and when Miss Vicky did the evening devotion you could have heard a pin drop. To make it easy for you to find out more about the Chicken House I've added a link to their website. "The Boys" hope to be invited back soon and we hope to see you there too. If you are within 100 miles, it is well worth the drive to experience this great family atmosphere. <>< --------------------------------------

New Photos Added - July 22, 2009

Howdy! Andrew Willett, my 11 year old friend (and amateur photographer) came over to Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton on July 14th and again on July 21st to take some pictures of his "old-er" buddy playing at Praise in the Park. I played solo as "The Gospel Trumpet" on July 14th and as a member of High on the Mountain Boys on July 21st. Andrew did such a good job, I asked if I could showcase his work here and he said "sure". Thanks Andrew for your great work and for your friendship! Jack - - <>< ------------------------------------------

Praise In The Park - July 14, 2009

Last night was a very special time playing the Lord's Music under the trees in the Staunton park. The crowd was exceptionally welcoming and two of my friends helped further "The Gospel Trumpet" ministry by taking photos and a video of the program. WOW - Life doesn't get any better. Thanks also to my friends who came out in support of the evening and thanks to the Linden Heights Baptist Church, whose vision it was to begin such a wonderful tradition. If I can be of service to your Church, Retreat Center, or Civic Group, please don't hesitate to give me a call. Blessings to you! - Jack <>< --------------------------------------

Shenandoah Heritage Market - June 27, 2009

On Friday, June 26th The Gospel Trumpet performed at the Shenandoah Heritage Farmer's Market in a benefit concert for Sylvia Williams, owner of the Western Wear store at the market. There was a nice (and appreciative) crowd and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. A special thank you to my close friends who came out in support of this worthy cause. Delicious chicken meals were enjoyed and everyone had a great time. Even after the concerts, many folks hung around to enjoy the campfire and roasted smores. Helmuth Builders, from Harrisonburg, VA supplied comfortable chairs and gliders from their great lineup of outdoor furniture and everyone was comfortable as the sun slowly slipped behind the hills. I look forward to seeing each of you again soon. - Jack <>< ----------------------------------

Danny Davis (Jack's Hero) Passes - June 12, 2008

Danny Davis, a Grammy-winning band leader and record producer who blended swing music with a country style, died June 12, 2008. Davis, a trumpet player and singer, suffered a heart attack at home June 7, 2008, publicist Betty Hofer said.
Davis formed Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass in 1968 after a career with big bands and as a record producer. The group, who ranged from 7 to 11 members, won a Grammy Award in 1969 for best country instrumental performance for "The Nashville Brass Featuring Danny Davis - Play More Nashville Sounds". The band also won the Country Music Association’s instrumental group of the year award from 1969 through 1974.
Danny was on the cutting edge of the music business and had his own jet airplane which he used to fly his band, The Nashville Brass, to engagements around the world.
After “retiring” from the Nashville Brass, Danny played occasional shows with Boots Randolph in Los Vegas. He was 83.

"The Gospel Trumpet" offers deepest sympathy to Barbara Nowlan, Danny's wife, and to his family. Well done good and faithful servant! - Jack <>< ---------------------------------
