"The Gospel Trumpet": News

YouTube Video - September 15, 2015

A couple of months back The Gospel Trumpet was invited to play a few numbers at a casual backyard gathering in Waynesboro. Little did I know that a video camera was running and the results would be posted on YouTube. You can view it by googling "blessing in the backyard Jack Brown Gospel Trumpet". It was an afternoon filled with good food, friends, and music. Our thanks to Donnie Hall for the invitation. Donna and I hope to be invited back next year.

Upcoming Local Gospel Concerts - August 7, 2013

There are two concerts you won't want to miss.

#1 - The Tribute Quartet will be at Wayne Hills Baptist Church, 877 Ladd Road, Waynesboro, VA on Thursday, August 8th at 7:00pm. They are one of the very best quartets in the Nation and I believe you will be amazed at the accapella portion of their program.

#2 - Michael Wayne Smith will present a concert of Gospel music on Saturday, August 17th at Heaven's Golden Gate Church, 810 Grubert Ave., Staunton, VA. The concert will begin at 6:00pm.

In 2011, Michael was featured in a full page article in the Singing News magazine and was also nominated as the SGM Fan Fair 2011 Male Vocalist of the Year. Most notably, the song “My Home”, recorded by the group Heirline, and penned by Michael was a number one song at many radio stations across the country in 2005 and now has become a standard in many churches today. Seating is limited so come early.

Cd's will be available at both concerts and a free-will offering will be received.

Blessings to you.

FREE GIFT - June 27, 2013

Feedback provided to musicians and singers by their website hosts is nothing short of amazing. The information is extremely valuable as it is allows the owner to determine who is visiting the site and then tailor the information to their specific clientele. This would be true for both Gospel and secular sites. Over the years that I have maintained “The Gospel Trumpet” website, I’ve learned that more than half of the visitors here are from countries outside the USA. Last month, for instance, 46% of visitors to “The Gospel Trumpet” site were from China. To those neighbors and also visitors from the USA, I pray that you are not just curious, but are led here to learn about our beautiful savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus died on a cross more than 2000 years ago so that ALL (Yes, that includes you – no matter where you live or how bad you have been) who receive Him may live FOREVER with Him in a glorious place called Heaven. FOREVER, is nearly inconceivable for us humans. It is Thousands of years, times Thousands of years, times Thousands of years… and on and on. Longer than you can imagine. We also know that after we die we will either go to this wonderful place called Heaven which is filled with love and beauty and free from sickness and pain or to a place of eternal darkness, known as Hell.
How can you get into Heaven? You simply need to ask Jesus to come into your heart and from that point on trust Him to lead your life. You will also want to talk frequently with Him and develop a relationship with Him. We as Christians call that living for Him. With Jesus’ help we can turn from our sins and live the way He would be pleased. It costs no money – It’s FREE!
None of us are worthy of this special treatment. The Holy Bible tells us that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. However, Eternal Life in Heaven is available to you when you call on the name of Jesus.
Fortunately, you don’t need to take my word for it. I’m just a simple messenger. It’s all written for you in the Holy Bible. Even if you don’t have a Bible, you can read it right here on the internet. To start, I would suggest that you turn to the book of Mark. It presents the Gospel Story clearly and is known for its brevity. I pray that as you read, you will receive a touch from The Master and will want to learn more and more about Him. He is standing at your door and knocking. Will you let him in?

Brother Bruce Stark - March 12, 2013

I'm sad to report that my good friend and Christian brother, Bruce Stark passed away today. Many of you know that Bruce had survived a major stroke several years back. However, through many prayers and lots of determination, he was back to nearly his normal prior self. He was enjoying playing music on a regular basis and will be missed by all of those who knew him. His touch on the lap steel guitar and his unique vocal abilities never failed to lift my spirits. Please join me in praying for his wife, Ella and her family as they navagate this time of separation.
One of my favorite memories of Bruce is when he, Chuck Monroe, and I did an impromptu performance at a local nursing home. Boy did we have fun and all the residents seemed to enjoy it, especially when Bruce would cut loose on his steele. Bruce had an amazing talent on that instrument and was always willing to help anyone who was willing to learn. He will surely be missed.
Bruce was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church where pastors Scott Reese and Tyler Clem preside.

Prayers Needed Quickly for Tracy Stuffle - January 23, 2013

Dear Friends,

I just received word that Tracy Stuffle of The Perrys has suffered a massive stroke. He was driving his car at the time which caused an accident. Please join with the Gospel Trumpet in praying for God’s 100% healing to his body and for comfort for the family. Other singers will be filling in for Tracy and Libbi this weekend so that she can be with her husband during this critical recovery time. If you are near any of their concerts, please support them by attending and donating as freely as God has given you the resources.

In His Service,
Jack

A New Beginning - January 22, 2013

Howdy friends - Just wanted to thank each of you for your prayers during my recent health concerns.

For those of you who don’t know, in September of last year I was diagnosed with blood clots in my right lung. It was a pretty scary time, as I was having to take quick shallow breaths just to get enough air to survive. Donna gave me the choice of going with her to the emergency room or going with the rescue squad. She had the phone in her hand, ready to call 911. (HA!) I went with her to Augusta Health…

Fortunately, we got there in time, they quickly discovered the problem, and started treatment. Now, I am feeling great and am back into my normal routines. Praise goes to our Heavenly Father for His healing and to the doctors He placed in our path.

However, during the early recovery process I began to think the worst - that I may never be able to play again; But with God’s help, my wind has returned and I have enjoyed playing out several times recently. God has undoubtedly kept me here for a higher calling, and I’m looking forward to carrying the music of the Gospel Trumpet to everyone who asks me to play.

How about you? Could I play for you? At this time I’m not able to do a full program of music, but am more than willing to come to your church and open the program for a quartet or other singing group. I would also be happy to come and play several numbers during your worship service. I believe that God has allowed me to remain here for that purpose. By calling and asking me to play, you will be helping to fulfil His plan!

I look forward to being with you soon.

Sincerely,

Your Friend in Christ…

Food For Thought - January 1, 2013

The following was said to have been written by Mr. Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary. I don't know Mr. Stein; however, I do agree with his thinking here. Please read...

My confession:

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians
like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God
are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the
concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it
in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat...

Or maybe I can put it another way: Where did the idea come from that we should
worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I
guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are
wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little
different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get
you thinking.

In light of recent events... terrorists attacks, school shootings, etc.. I think
it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few
years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then
someone said you better not read the Bible in school... The Bible says thou shalt
not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said
OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about.. And we said okay..

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think
it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's
going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what
the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like
wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think
twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar, and obscene articles pass
freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school
and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward a Christian message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.

It's funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,

Ben Stein

New Music Opportunity - July 31, 2012

Howdy - I have a dream which you may be able to help fulfil...
For the past several years, The Gospel Trumpet has been performing as a solo act, playing mostly old hymns using modern Nashville background tracks. In the upcoming season, I hope to grow the experience by assembling a dedicated group of professional musicians and singers interested in recording music and promoting and managing our own opry-style tour shows. We would perform predominately at theaters and churches, retreats, and at large community events. Using a two-set format, our first set would be composed of clean family-style country music. Following an intermission, the show would culminate with our Gospel program.
Just a few of my thoughts are: Everyone must be able to adapt quickly on stage, in order to be able to field requests from the audience. We will wear tuxedo attire and always conduct ourselves professionally. There must also be a common bond where we all work in harmony. Fellow Christians and born-again believers are highly desired, as this will be a ministry outreach.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? You may know of someone who would fit in perfectly. If so, please have them contact me at jack@gospeltrumpetmusic.com - It would be kindly appreciated.
Thanks and Blessings to you for a wonderful week.
Sincerely,
Jack <><

Passing of Sister Joann Bragg - July 29, 2012

Donna and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Sister Joann Bragg from Waynesboro, VA. Sister Bragg and her husband Pastor Melvin, along with Chuck Monroe, composed the local singing group the Messingers. It was always a blessing to hear them. Sister Joann's voice reminded me a great deal of Vestal Goodman of the Happy Goodmans. She could really sing and always gave the glory to her Lord. We will miss her, but know that she is in a better place. As Christians, (those who have given our hearts and lives to Jesus) we have the promise of seeing our loved ones again and look forward to that day. Meanwhile, I can just picture her sitting up in heaven, serenading all those gathered around her.
Rest in peace, Sister Joann!

Upcoming July 4th Concert - April 18, 2012

Hello Friends,
I just learned of a very special July 4th concert to be held at Bissett Park in Radford Virginia. Jimmy Fortune will be the headline act and one of our favorite local groups, Faithful Praise, from Waynesboro will also perform at 2:00 in the afternoon. Numerous other groups (which we are not familiar with) will be on stage throughout the afternoon, but I especially thought that you would enjoy seeing these two. You know about Jimmy's talent, but you may not have heard of "Faithful Praise". Unfortunately, they do not travel with live musicians, but they do have have excellent voices with a special blend of harmonies. Donna and I try to see them as often as possible and we plan to make the trip to Radford on July 4th. You can contact Radford Parks and recreation at (540) 731-3633 for additional information or just visit their website.
Enjoy and have a Blessed Day.

Simply Amazing - April 8, 2012

Hello Friends,
And Happy Easter! He is risen!
Recently, several churches have stated that they would not be interested in having "The Gospel Trumpet" come to provide special music because their pastor or another member of their church plays trumpet. After processing it for a while, I came to the conclusion that this is a bit unusual. After all, each musician has a different style and when playing for the Lord, this certainly is not about competition! Do you not invite different singers because someone in your church body sings? Of course not.
My prayer is that if your church is looking for special music, that you would not hesitate to call on "The Gospel Trumpet"... even if you have a regular trumpet player. I consider it a priviledge to minister with any and all musicians who are committed to serving our Lord.
May you have a Blessed week and I hope to be with you soon.
